The receiver room for the Buffalo Bills has improved drastically, even though they traded their number one receiver and #2 Gabe Davis. Some of you may be scratching your heads as to how I can say such a thing. For the first time in the McDermott/ Beane era, they have brought into the receiver room a chemistry that recognizes that Josh Allen is the franchise quarterback.
Unfortunately, one of the reasons I was against the signing of Stephon Diggs was that his vibe was more about himself and less about the harmony of the franchise. Players after making a big play point to themselves often giving a vibe that dismantles great teams. This vibe has been seen in Terrel Owens, Stephon Diggs and most recently Antonio Brown.
Nobody can dispute the greatness of these players, but they have eventually led to chaos in their teams based on individualism rather than what is in the best interest of the franchise. Stephon Diggs brought this vibe to this franchise despite having career years playing in Buffalo. He was not the reason that this team did not make a Super Bowl during his tenure, but he most certainly had a part in it coming up short. Most of the Bills most important playoff games Digg was a non-factor.
Stephon Diggs 2021 – Two playoff games played, ten targets, six receptions, sixty-seven yards. Stephon Diggs 2022 – Two playoff games played, nine teen targets eleven receptions 149 yards. Stephon Diggs 2023 – Two playoff games played, 17 Tar gets 10 receptions seventy-three yards.
These are mediocre statistics for a so-called elite receiver in the NFL who commands one of the top salaries at his position. We must also factor in that coaching and play selection plays a major part in this mediocre production level when the games are most important, but there were other players on the team that did better. I just think what the Bills have done will help Josh Allen the most not having Stephon Diggs’ ego to worry about this season.
