Celebrating Black History Month with ‘The Art of Tattoos’ Exhibition

Sum’er Daize

In celebration of Black History Month’s theme, “African Americans in the Arts,” the African American Veterans Arts and Culture Corporation, in collaboration with the Johnetta R. Cole AMVETS Post No. 24, proudly presents “The Art of Tattoos” by the acclaimed Tattoo Artist Sum’er Daize. This captivating exhibition will be hosted at the Frank E. Merriweather, Jr. Branch Library, gracing the library foyer from Sunday, February 11, to February 15, 2024. A special viewing and discussion will take place on Thursday, February 15, 2024, in the library Auditorium.

Sum’er Daize stands as a remarkable force in Buffalo, not only as a trailblazing tattoo artist, but also as a dedicated advocate for art accessibility and community empowerment. As the proud owner of Ink Euphoria, the city’s first and only tattoo studio owned by an African American woman, Sum’er Daize has carved out a niche that blends her passion for art, entrepreneurship, and social impact.

The journey into the world of tattooing for Sum’er Daize began courageously in the summer of 2020 when she opened the doors of Ink Euphoria on 773 Main Street. Born as Jessica Miller, Sum’er Daize embodies a laid-back persona, cherishing artistry in all its forms and finding ingenious ways to blend creativity with purpose.

Beyond the vibrant world of tattooing, Sum’er Daize is also a musician and a singer-songwriter, showcasing her multifaceted artistic prowess. Her love for education led her to master the craft of tattooing and establish an arts program dedicated to bridging the gap and making art more accessible to the youth in Buffalo’s inner city.

In addition to Ink Euphoria, Sum’er Daize founded Anything Arts, an organization committed to breaking down barriers to artistic expression. This endeavor amplifies her dedication to fostering accessibility and inclusivity in the artistic realm. The event not only showcases talent but also provides a platform for former customers to proudly share their tattoo experiences.

Sum’er Daize’s involvement with the Prison Fellowship Friendship Tree and Family Promise of WNY highlights her dedication to addressing social issues. Through various events, workshops, showcases, and fundraising endeavors like raffles for gift certificates, she seamlessly intertwines her passion for art with a deep sense of compassion for her community.

Ink Euphoria isn’t just a tattoo studio; it’s a testament to Sum’er Daize’s pioneering spirit, blending tattoo artistry with a genuine concern for her community. With every stroke of her tattoo needle and every partnership she forges, she leaves an indelible mark, proving that art, entrepreneurship, and social responsibility can beautifully intersect under her visionary leadership.
