The Winners of the Presidential Essay Contest

This Columnist would like to announce the winners of the Presidential Essay Contest. The winners are as follows: Daniel Meyers is the first-place winner. He will receive a prize of $175. Jill Gildersleeve is the second-place winner and her prize is $100. Crystal Ann Lott will receive an Honorable Mention award for $75.

I would like to congratulate these winners for writing essays that were very insightful. They stayed on the topic of the issues surrounding the current campaign for president of the United States. My goal in introducing these essay contests is to give people an opportunity to express their views about a variety of issues facing our community and country. I have introduced over 100 essay contests over 20 years. I began doing it while teaching in the public school system.

The award program has been scheduled for Friday, August 9, 2024 at the Merriweather Library in the Dr. Eva M. Doyle auditorium at 1:00 p.m. If you miss the program, I plan to give some important excerpts from the essays in my column at a future date. I will not be able to publish the entire essays due to limited space. However, there are some opinions that I feel that my readers should know.

These essays are an exercise in democracy because there are examples of free speech. I also want to encourage people who are interested to consider writing a book. I will be sharing my article called “Tips for Writing a Book” at the award program.

Congratulations to the winners. My advice is to, Keep On Writing!!
