U.S House of Representative Hakeem Jeffries

Hakeem Jeffries was here the weekend of October 28, 2024. He received the Black Achievers Award of Excellence while here. He also was the honored guest at a reception at the Curtiss Hotel located on Franklin Street in downtown Buffalo. He spoke to an audience of about 200 people.

This columnist had the pleasure of hearing him speak. Representative Jeffries spoke about how important this presidential election is to every American. He reminded the audience of the importance of getting out the vote saying that, “We Are Not Going Back.” This is a familiar theme of the Kamala Harris Campaign.

Hakeem Jeffries continued by reviewing the goals of the Democratic Party stating that “we stood up for our veterans and supported the leadership of Kamala Harris and Joe Biden. We gave Americans better healthcare, good paying jobs at home, and spoke up for climate change. Democrats have the ‘Big Deal’. We govern to make life better for everyone.” He continued to remind the audience that is important to elect Tim Kennedy for Congress and to support all of the other candidates in the other races in New York. “We are fighting for reproductive rights and freedom for women. He also spoke of the January 6th insurrection inspired by the former President.” He concluded by saying, “We must show up and speak up for what we know is right. Let’s elect Kamala Harris to become the 47th President of the United States.

Hakeem Sekou Jeffries has served as the House Minority Leader and the leader of the House Democratic Caucus since 2003. He was a member of the New York State Assembly from 2007 to 2012. He was elected by the House Democratic Caucus from 2019 to 2023 to succeed Nancy Pelosi. He has one brother named Hasan. His parents are Laneda Jeffries, a social worker and Marland Jeffries, a state substance abuse counselor.

Hakeem’s record in Congress has been to work toward equal rights and justice for all people. He graduated with honors from New York University Law School. Before running for office, he was a successful corporate lawyer. He has represented his constituents well in Brooklyn. He is married to Kennissandra Jeffries and they have two sons.

Hakeem is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. He is very impressive, well-liked, respected, and often speaks of the importance of unity in bringing different factions together in Congress. It was an honor to hear him speak!!
