Pre-Season Begins

By Pat Freeman, The Mighty O’Ba

The Buffalo Bills opened their preseason by suffering a blowout loss to the Chicago Bears, 33-6.

The good thing about these matchups is there is no game planning, so each player must use fundamental football knowledge to play these games. In the case of the offensive and defensive line, there are many plays to draw on from the trenches, especially on the offensive side of the ball. The offensive line just did not get the job done at all, outside of the brief appearance of Pro Bowl offensive tackle Dion Dawkins.

The defense did not look good against the number one overall pick Caleb Williams, who set a tone early in this contest that he belonged at this level. The good thing is this is a preseason game really set up for evaluation of the roster. The sad thing is that there will probably be some players who will lose their opportunity to play for this organization with such a bad showing on film.

This week, the hometown team will practice with the always physical Pittsburgh Steelers, with a preseason contest on Saturday. This game, I am not looking forward to seeing many of our veteran players as they move closer to opening day. It is always best to keep your proven players clean until it counts on September 8, 2024 vs. the Arizona Cardinals.
