The Mighty O’Ba Sports Report: Why Is There Talk of Sean McDermott On the Hot Seat
By Pat Freeman, The Mighty O’Ba
This off-season has been the most challenging in the McDermott/Beane era, but I am okay with everything that they have done on paper. Since their arrival to One Bills Drive, we have seen players being paid and the franchise has made the playoffs six out of seven years.
When I read some of the national comments about the tenure of McDermott/Beane, I noticed they will say Sean McDermott could be on the hot seat. Well, I truly have had my differences of opinion on some things this organization has done over the years, but to say he is on the hot seat!
Business-wise the ownership of this franchise has seen the value of this team when purchased went from around $900 million to $3, 4 Billion and they are getting a new stadium in which they will have full control. I mentioned earlier that the McDermott/ Beane tenure has seen them make the playoffs six out of 7 years.
The most crucial factor that the national media needs to consider is that if you fire McDermott you will have to replace the entire football operation. Sean McDermott runs the entire football operation for the Western New York franchise. If you fire him, you must replace everybody on the football side, and would be starting from nothing.
The National media fails to look at the failures of this franchise over a 17-year period and mostly make this statement because the Bills have not made a Super Bowl. I do understand the analogy because this franchise has been good enough the last four years, but has not been able to get past two guys – Joe Burrow and Pat Mahomes. Both playoff losses were critical in formulating the idea that Sean McDermott was on the hot seat, but if you analyze where this franchise is compared to where it was before he arrived, I think you will change your mind on making a drastic change, which would mean the overall of the entire football operation.
