Written by Jalen McGill

For the fourth straight year, the Buffalo Bills and Josh Allen have clinched the AFC East title. The win came this past Saturday after a 21 -14 victory over the Miami Dolphins.

QB Josh Allen escapes for 1st-down run

The Bills stayed optimistic and confident throughout the ups and downs of the 2023-2024 season. The season consisted of injuries and scandal for most of the year. Major injuries included Tre’Davious White and Matt Milano. Scandals extended from the Brandon Bean comments, Coach McDermott’s comments, and Von Miller’s DV situation.

Throughout the valleys and difficulties, the Bills were able to stay laser focused and eventually capture yet another division crown. While covering the team since its week one loss to the NY Jets, team captain and Pro Bowl left tackle Dion Dawkins remained positive. His positivity carried this team throughout the season. After being asked how the team could bounce back following the week one loss, he was quoted saying “Flush it, we didn’t lose like 10 games, we loss one. One loss is one loss. It’s the first game of the season.”

Dawkins was also adamant on supporting his Quarterback Josh Allen. When asked how he is there for his QB, Dawkins replied “Just be there for him. When it’s time to pass protect, protect”. Dawkins made sure that that week one loss didn’t define the team. The Bills continued to struggle over the following weeks and stood at 6- 6, and in 11th place of the AFC and out of the playoffs.

There were several key moves made by the organization that had a hand in getting the team to this point. The most obvious was the firing of former offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey. Dorsey was replaced by Quarterbacks coach Joe Brady, and the team would go on to win 5 out of their last 5 games. During the winning streak, the Bills were able to form a physical and tough identity. They began running the ball and utilizing their skills players for the better of the team. They were also allowing Allen to play within the offense without feeling the need to put the team on his back.

The Buffalo Bills will now face the 7th seed Pittsburg Steelers in Buffalo while trying to capture their first Super Bowl Championship.
