Buffalo Bills Approach to the New League Year
By Pat Freeman, The Mighty O’Ba
The Buffalo Bills' approach to the new league year has been consistent under the McDermott/Beane tenure. First, resign your eligible free agents that have produced and say goodbye to those that have not. This is quite a simple formula that has produced 7-8 playoff seasons during their reign. There are instances that I have not agreed with regarding the outcome, but you cannot argue with the results on the field. This year is no different. I did not agree with awarding Greg Rousseau a second contract because he has not been consistent in big games and is not a person the offensive coordinator needs to know where he is. Those are my prerequisites for a second contract in the NFL, but obviously, the team felt they needed to bring him back.
The Bills need to get bigger on the defensive line and at the linebacker position, and hopefully, those concerns can be addressed in the draft. The franchise announced the release of Von Miller but has not released Dawson Knox, who makes $14.68 million per season according to Spotrac team salaries. Dawson Knox is not only one of the highest-paid players on the team but is also one of the least productive players on the offensive side of the ball. Last year, 22 catches for only 311 yards, and you wonder why James Cook says, "fifteen million is my number," and based on what the Bills paid Dawson Knox, they better pay James Cook.
