Weatherization Services are Now Available in Erie County
The two organizations providing free weatherization service to low-mod income individuals in Erie County, Neighborhood Housing Service of South Buffalo (NHSB) and Supportive Services Corporation (SSC) want to remind people who may qualify that now is the time to apply before the start of the heating season. NHS of South Buffalo (NHSB) serves the residents of the City of Buffalo while Supportive Services Corporation serves residents of Erie County outside the City of Buffalo.
A family of four making less than $70,056 may be eligible for services designed to keep them warm this winter and reduce the amount of money they budget towards heating. The program has the added bonus of reducing the dwelling units carbon footprint as well as electrical energy consumption.
The services provided are funded by the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) and Bipartisan Infrastructure Legislation (BIL) through the NYS Department of Housing and Community Renewal.
Beginning with an audit of the unit, the best return on investment for the services provided will be determined. Services range from insulation, air sealing, energy saving appliances, thermostats, installation vents in the kitchen, bath and/or attic, furnace tune ups and/or replacements, hot water tank repair/replacements and sometimes replacement windows. Our programs may also compliment others run by National Grid, Empower, etc. NHSB is affiliated with Empower Program.
Energy usage reduction and health & safety are services designed to aid the consumers. Smoke and CO detectors are installed, and inner air quality are invaluable during our close house seasonal months, said Shyrl Duderwick, Executive Director of NHS of South Buffalo.
“Now is the time to call to see if you qualify,” stressed Executive Director at Supportive Services Lou Petrucci. “We want you to keep your money in your wallet and your home as warm as possible.”
