MAYOR BROWN DIRECTS LOWERING OF CITY FLAGSIN OBSERVANCE OF PATRIOT DAY
The U.S. flags located in Niagara Square and outside the City Court Building and the Michael J. Dillon U.S. Courthouse Building will be lowered to half-staff at 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 11, 2024.
Under the direction of Mayor Byron W. Brown, U.S. flags located on City of Buffalo government buildings and properties will be lowered to half-staff on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, in remembrance of the heroes who lost their lives and those who sacrificed their lives for others, in the terrorist attacks on 9/11. Additionally, the top of Buffalo City Hall, as well as partnering structures and buildings that make up the Buffalo Landmark Illumination Team (BuffaloLIT), will be lit in patriotic colors, beginning at dusk on Wednesday, in recognition of Patriot Day.
Mayor Brown said, “Patriot Day is a good day for all of us to come together to honor and remember the first responders, service members, and everyday Americans who stepped up on 9/11. Today I encourage City residents to reflect on their courage and reaffirm our commitment to freedom and opportunity, as we continue to build a brighter future in Buffalo and beyond.”
In the United States, Patriot Day occurs on September 11 of each year in memory of the 2,996 lives lost and the heroes who emerged that fateful day in 2001. Patriot Day is a day of national remembrance where we are reminded of the importance of coming together as a community to honor the memory of those we lost and support those affected by the attacks. Flags will be returned to full staff on September 12, 2024.
