UB School of Dental Medicine Celebrates Renovated State-of the-Art Clinic With Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony Nov. 27th
Renovated facilities provide specialty care to Western New Yorkers
The University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine (SDM) held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, Nov. 27, that recognized the completion of the first-floor renovated clinic in Squire Hall on South Campus. It is open to the public.
UB administrators presenting remarks during the ceremony will included:
Marcelo W. B. Araujo, dean of the School of Dental Medicine
Eugena Stephan, associate dean of clinical affairs
Allison Brashear, vice president for health sciences at UB and dean of the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences
Scott Weber, UB provost and executive vice president for academic affairs.
This marks the first major renovation of the clinic since its opening in 1986. Designed by BKP Architects, the $3.31 million, 11,400- square-foot renovated clinic opened in August, following 14 months of construction. It contains 58 dental operatories that offer prosthodontics, periodontics, advanced education in general dentistry and endodontics post-graduate programs.
Updates include a CAD/ SAM milling room, advanced diagnostic imaging rooms and clinical support labs and offices.
Every year the SDM sees more than 14,000 patient visits. Many are residents of Western New York with little or no access to professional dental care. As the SDM is the largest dental Medicaid provider in the WNY region, it serves as a safety net for the community.
In the future, additional clinic renovations will include an orthodontics clinic, an orofacial pain and TMJ clinic, a special needs clinic and a pre-doctorate clinic.
