Local Teen Destini Houston to Be Honored as New York’s First-Ever "Kindest Kid in America"
On Wednesday, May 1 at 9:30 AM, the Charter School for Applied Technologies will host a heartwarming celebration to honor Destini Houston, a remarkable young leader who has been named New York’s first-ever recipient of the national “Kindest Kid in America” award.
Destini, who currently serves as Miss Western New York’s Teen, is being recognized for her unwavering kindness to fellow students and her passionate advocacy around foster care awareness. In recognition of her inspiring impact, the Kindest Kid in America organization has also published a children’s book about Destini’s journey, which will be read aloud to students at the event. Every elementary student in attendance will receive a copy of the book to take home.
Members of the press are encouraged to arrive by 9:10 AM, with the formal event beginning promptly at 9:30 AM. Highlights will include the official award presentation, a reading of the children’s book, and remarks from several distinguished community leaders:
Congressman Tim Kennedy (sending a congressional proclamation to mark the occasion)
Erie County Legislator Taisha St-Jean Tard’s office, presenting a county proclamation
Buffalo City Council Member Leah Halton-Pope, delivering special remarks
New York State Assembly Majority Leader Crystal Peoples-Stokes, in attendance and offering words of encouragement
