Buffalo Mayor Christopher P. Scanlon Proclaims “UB Women’s Basketball Day” in Honor of Historic WNIT Championship Victory

Buffalo Mayor Christopher P. Scanlon officially proclaimed April 21, 2025, as “UB Women’s Basketball Day” in recognition of the University at Buffalo women’s basketball team’s historic 2024–2025 season. The team captured its first-ever Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) Championship and set a new program record with a 30–7 overall season.

During a ceremony held at Buffalo City Hall, Mayor Scanlon presented the proclamation to members of the championship team, including student-athletes Jordyn Beaty, Terah Harness, and Ariana Seawell, along with University at Buffalo Athletics leadership. The celebration honored the team’s remarkable achievement and the pride they’ve brought to the city, university, and entire Western New York region.

“Today, we honored the UB Women’s Basketball team for their historic season—capturing the program’s first-ever WNIT Championship and setting a new school record with a 30–7 finish,” said Mayor Scanlon. “As Mayor, I’m proud to recognize the student-athletes and coaches whose hard work and determination brought pride to Buffalo, the University at Buffalo, and all of Western New York.”

The Bulls’ WNIT Champion ship game was held at Alumni Arena in front of a record-setting crowd of 5,650 fans—the first sellout in program history—further demonstrating the community’s strong support for women’s athletics in Buffalo.
