Lillian E. Hundley Scholarship Honors Community Service and Legacy

The members of the Bennett-Wells American Legion Post No. 1780 Auxiliary started a scholarship honoring Mrs. Lillian E. Hundley because of her dedication and service to her community. $500.00 will be allocated for a deserving senior who has been accepted into a college. She was the last Founding member of the Auxiliary. If you have a deserving student or students at your school, please have them submit their application no later than June 13, 2025, to the address listed on the application. Please make copies of the application if needed.

Mrs. Hundley was the mother of ten children. As a young Widow, she was able to successfully raise her children alone. While her children were in school, she volunteered to tutor reading at the Diocesan Education Center. Mrs. Hundley helped raise funds to pay for YMCA memberships of neighborhood children and was a member of the YMCA Board.

  • Mrs. Hundley was always known for being a hard worker and a pillar in the community. She founded the Landon-Fillmore Block Association, to help in the maintenance and beautification of the neighborhood.

  • She was a long-time member of the Fire Prevention Board, which was created to help keep homes safe from fire, and to provide assistance where needed.

  • She was a founding member of The Bennett-Wells American Legion Auxiliary #1780, whose main purpose is to provide assistance for all Veterans in need of support who live anywhere in Erie County.

  • She was a board member of The Masten Block Club Coalition.
