Snared Cards Organization Gives Veterans Gifts
By Jewelean Magee
On September 10, 2024 the members of the Johnnetta R. Cole AMVETS Post 24 received Tee shirts and greeting cards from Ms. Paula McDonald, Ms. Rynea Williams, and Mr. Josh Erni, who are the board members of the Snard Cards Organization that stems from a scholarship at the Mt. Ararat Temple of Prayer where Bishop Dwight Brown is Pastor.
Snard Cards, is a 501©3 organization and their mission is to teach kids/young adults entrepreneurship, promote positivity, and many facets of business development. Ms. Mc Donald said that “Not every kid is going to college. We have one student who is a phenomenal artist. And is thinking of having his own business.” Two groups of students started doing greeting cards to sell as a fundraiser, as well as bridging the gap between the kids/young adults and older Americans through art.
Another component of Snard Cards is getting the kids/young adults to know what veterans go through and understand the countless the sacrifices that were made by them. The late Roger Noel Brown, a 5-year Army National Guard veteran and board member, implemented the need for the kids to understand and gain respect for the veterans. He got the kids involved with veterans through various programs in the city. A few years ago Snard Cards had a table at the Connecticut Street Armory for a veteran stand down where the kids got the chance to engage with the veterans through art.
Ms. Rynea Williams, sister of Roger Brown said that her brother was an athlete, played basketball and graduated from Hutch Tech. He received an athletic scholarship from Canisius College and later tried out for the Buffalo Braves basketball team. Roger Brown passed away on July 11, 2024.
Mr. Josh Erni, also a board member stated that “the appreciation for the veterans made me do better and it helped me to appreciate what sacrifices my parents made and what you have.”
Finally, Snard Cards felt that it would be an honor to honor veterans because they are the “real heroes.”
