MBAWNY Election Results

Ifeoluwa Motunrayo Popoola – Assist. County Attorney, Erie County

The Minority Bar Association of Western New York (MBAWNY) announces the results of its 2024 executive board election, which was open to the organization’s nearly 100-member base of local attorneys.

The results of the election concluded as follows:

President: Ifeoluwa Motunrayo Popoola – Assistant County Attorney, Erie County;

Vice President: James Harrington – Assistant District Attorney, Erie County;

Treasurer: Shane Greene – General Labor Attorney, National Labor Relations Board;

Deputy Treasurer: Deonna Jones – Assistant Legal Counsel, Buffalo Board of Education;

Recording Secretary: Katherine McCarley – Associate Counsel, National Fuel Gas Co.;

Corresponding Secretary: Nicholas Ramirez – Civil Reentry Attorney, Legal Aid Bureau of Buffalo;

Director: Jesutowo Adeniji – Deputy Commissioner of Labor Relations, Erie County

Director: Arianna Hart – Assistant Corporation Counsel, City of Buffalo.

Incoming Minority Bar Association President Ifeoluwa Motunrayo Popoola stated, “I am excited and honored to work alongside our incredibly diverse and dedicated board members in advancing the goals and legacy of the organization. This team intends to prioritize the organization’s community outreach, increase opportunities for members of the organization, and advance minority representation in legal profession.” She went on to state, “We also intend to expand membership opportunities to college students from underrepresented backgrounds who are interested in the legal profession and promote their success by facilitating access to resources, mentorship, and valuable professional experience.”

President Popoola is a first-generation immigrant from Oyo State, Nigeria, who is passionate about promoting diversity and equal representation in the law. She is a graduate of the University at Buffalo School of Law and served as a Public Defender for the Legal Aid Bureau of Buffalo before joining the Erie County Attorney’s office as an Assistant County Attorney. She is married to Dr. Daniel Popoola, who is also an alum of University at Buffalo School of Medicine, and they are blessed with two sons.

The Minority Bar Association of WNY is a pioneer non-profit organization comprised of diverse members that represent the varying ethnicities, cultures, and beliefs within the legal profession in Western New York. Its member consists of attorneys, judges, elected and other public officials, academics, law students and other legal professionals who work or live in the Western New York region. The MBAWNY advocates for equal access to legal services and assistance, especially among the underserved communities of Western New York.
