Habitat for Humanity Buffalo Receives $30,000 Grant from Lowe’s to Repair Homes Throughout Erie County
Habitat for Humanity Buffalo received a $30,000 grant from Lowe’s to help repair 4 homes throughout Erie County.
With support from the grant, Habitat Buffalo was able to provide essential accessibility repairs for homeowners who wish to age in place but need accommodations such as porch rebuilds, ramps, chair lifts, and roof repairs. These essential repairs allow for homeowners to remain safely in their homes even while living on a fixed income and as their accessibility needs change with age. Volunteers assisted on the projects when possible.
“Habitat for Humanity’s vision is a world where everyone has a safe place to live, and the critical home repair program allows us to assist homeowners in maintaining a safe place to live,” stated Christopher Kennedy, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Buffalo. “As Western New York housing stock and our population continue to age, being able to make these much needed repairs, like the ones supported by Lowe’s, is an important piece of achieving our vision.”
The funding from Lowe’s is part of a two-year, $6 million donation to Habitat for Humanity International to support home repair and preservation efforts in owner-occupied homes.
Through this partnership, more than 75 local Habitat affiliates have completed more than 480 projects this year to address critical health and safety issues in homes across the U.S. Since 2003, Lowe’s and Habitat have worked together to help more than 18,000 people build or improve a place to call home.
