By Jewlean Magee
The Johnetta R. Cole Am vets Post 24 book lending library is in need of books for the expansion of children and young adult books, be it fiction, nonfiction, picture, and graphic books (comic books), to be given out at this year’s Juneteenth Festival, upcoming book bag giveaways, and other events throughout the city.
Mr. Jerry Bowman post member and founder of the book lending library feels that it is important for children of all ages to read about our his tory, stories, people, places, and events that shape this country and who we are.
“As the young people watch tv, they can see by the current Presidential administration is doing everything to erase our African American culture by taking books off library shelves, deleting our history including the names of men and women that served in the military and buried at Arlington Cemetery” Said Mr. Bow man.
The goal of the Johnetta R. Cole Post to place as many books into the hands of our children and young people, and also want to reach out to the various organizations to let them know that the post would like to partner with them at their book bag give away to distribute books.
