Celebrating the Season With Healthy, Family Activities in Buffalo, Niagara Falls, & Lackawanna Neighborhoods

Good for The Neighborhood returns this autumn with family-friendly events that combine fun and wellness at community sites in Buffalo, Niagara Falls and Lackawanna. Residents can address their health needs through free blood pressure and BMI screenings along with free flu shots. Kids will have the opportunity to enjoy arts and crafts activities and pick out pumpkins. Participants will also take home a bag of fresh produce along with a recipe card for vegetable soup. The announced October schedule is:

Wednesday, Oct. 9 from 4:30-6 p.m. Westminster Community Charter School (24 Westminster Ave, Buffalo, NY 14215) Featuring free hayrides (weather permitting) and Buffalo Zoomobile.

Thursday, Oct. 17 from 5- 6:30 p.m. Doris Jones Family Resource Building (3001 9th St., Niagara Falls, NY 14305) Featuring soup samples.

Tuesday, Oct. 22 from 4-6 p.m. Packard Court Community Center (4300 Pine Ave., Niagara Falls, NY 14301) Featuring Buffalo Zoo-mobile and soup samples.

Thursday, Oct. 24 from 5:30-7 p.m. Martin Rd Elementary School (135 Martin Rd., Lackawanna, NY 14218) Featuring soup samples.

The Healthy Options program provides a snack at each Good for the Neighborhood event while attendees will have an opportunity to visit with community groups and resources. Attendees can receive health screening prizes, including fitness equipment, and may enter a raffle for special items.

“The harvest season is upon us and there’s no better time to get inspired to start a healthy habit and make some connections at one of our Good for the Neighborhood events,’’ said Carrie Meyer, Executive Director, Independent Health Foundation. “This fall, we’ll have pumpkins and hayrides along with great ideas on how to turn your bag of fresh produce into a tasty and healthy meal. We hope the community joins us for some family friendly fun and takes advantage of our free health screenings and flu shots.”

Good for the Neighborhood programs are health fair-style events held quarterly in community centers, schools and businesses in neighborhoods throughout the City of Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Akron and Lackawanna. The events offer free access to healthy food, health screenings including blood pressure checks, workshops and, once each year during the late summer, free school supplies.
