A Special Letter

I would like to thank one of the readers of my recent book for her positive comments that she sent to me in a beautiful card. She read my 13th book entitled: My Journey of 45 Years Teaching African and African American History in the Home, School, and Community.”

I am not going to give her name unless I get permission to do so. She does not live in the African American community, but she had such great comments that I wanted to at least mention some of them.

Here is a quote from her card that she sent me: “I am so glad that I read your book and I have the greatest respect for all that you have accomplished. What I find so remarkable about your 45 years of teaching African and African History is that you had to not only develop the curriculum for your subject and all of the materials, but you also researched the content of your subject. Your determination to find all of the ‘pieces’ of this hidden history in so many places and then to share them with your students and then with the community through your books is truly a great gift. I am so inspired by your book to reach out further to learn more about African American history in Buffalo. With my greatest gratitude for all of your work, I wish you good health and success in your future endeavors.”

This Columnist would like to say that it is letters like this that I get often that gives me the inspiration to keep doing the work that I do. Sharing African American history with all people regardless of their ethnic background, I truly believe is one of the ways that we break down stereotypes and create a better understanding between all races of people.

Thank you so much to the author of this letter. It means a great deal not only to me but to our entire community!!
