New Deadline to Apply for the 15th Annual Romeo Doyle Muhammad Scholarship

Romeo Doyle Muhammad

Students can apply for the Romeo Doyle Muhammad Scholarship now until May 16, 2024 by midnight on this date. This Scholarship is open to students of color who will graduate from high school in June and attend college in the fall.

I created this scholarship in tribute to my Late husband, Romeo Doyle Muhammad, who was a combat Veteran of the Korean War. He served our country with honor and distinction. Although he was injured in the war, he received certificates of merit in recognition of his service to our country. He also received a certificate from the White House signed by President Barack Obama!

The Romeo Doyle Muhammad Scholarship is always given during the birth month of my husband in July. He always encouraged young people to stay in school and get a good education. Last year I gave six students a $500 check and a gift bag with materials to use in college. They were all outstanding students. The award program was held at the Merriweather Library in the Dr. Eva M. Doyle auditorium. It was well-attended with community and family members.

I would like to thank school board member Paulette Woods, who represents the Central District, for her donation towards this year’s scholarship. I would also like to thank Judson Price, who is a Deacon at the First Shiloh Baptist church for his donation. Special thanks also to Pastor Dwayne Jones of the Mt. Aaron Baptist for his support.

I have received “thank you” letters from past recipients of this scholarship. One of the students is now at Howard University majoring in business. I always encourage the students to let me know how they are doing in their college careers. Students must write an essay describing their future goals. This is a required part of the application.
