The Mighty O’Ba Sports Report: Crunch Time for the Bills

The Buffalo Bills have approached the crunch time of the season and can’t afford to lose another Divisional/ AFC match up.

If the hometown team aspires to make the post season tournament, they must defeat the upcoming game with the Jets this week. The Bills can’t afford to lose another contest to an AFC opponent this season.

This has been such an up and down season that has been heavily dictated by the health of this team. The faithful have watched this version of the Bills once again riddled with the injury bug on both sides of the Ball, but especially on defense.

In pro locker rooms you always hear the term “next man up,” but you will always experience some drop off. The most egregious issue this year, in my opinion, rests with some of the coaching decisions on both sides of the ball. This includes head coach Sean McDermott, who has taken on the added responsibility of calling the defense. Many of his personnel groups have been suspected of leaving Von Miller in the Cincinnati game in a critical down in the contest. He has also been slow to recognize that teams are targeting Taron Johnson in the red zone. These small nuances have been the reason that this team has struggled this season.

The offense is probably the greater story because they are relatively healthy and much of the blame must go against offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey, who has been abysmal this season.

If the Bills do not turn this season around, I believe it will spell the end of Ken Dorsey as coordinator because of his consistent failure to create an offensive identity outside of the athletic ability of Josh Allen. Most opposing defenders say the Bills are very predictable and it’s just a matter of stopping them. I believe that Ken Dorsey needs to be relieved of duties because he is living off the improvisational ability of his quarterback. When this is not working, the Bills offense has stagnated at times this year despite being relatively healthy so far this season.

Note: This article was written the day before Ken Dorsey was relieved of his duties as offensive coordinator.
