Previewing NBA Free Agency: 2 Moves to Shake Things Up

Written By Jalen McGill

The Boston Celtics have reclaimed dominance by capturing their record 18th NBA Championship to finish the 2023-2024 NBA season. That leaves 31 other teams vying to get in position to take the thrown as the best team in the NBA.

The NBA Draft is a great start for teams to get young talented players that will reshape their franchises into the future. After the draft, NBA free agency is the next domino to fall. With a lackluster draft and not much star power coming out, NBA free agency is as important as ever. This free agency class features several champions and all pro players including Klay Thompson, Paul George, LeBron James and others.

Here are my top free agents and landing spots to shake up the NBA for next season. NBA Free Agency starts Sunday June 30th at 6:00 PM EST, let the fun begin!

Paul George

Paul George is the best free agent in the NBA. He’s a proven two-way wing who can score the ball efficiently and has a nice stroke at the arc. At 34 years-old this may be his last major contract he can demand. He’s seeking a 4 year max deal with plenty of suitors out there. PG has been in Los Angeles for the last 5 years and has failed to make it to the NBA Finals in each of those seasons. I believe a fresh start would be great for George and his new team. The Warriors would be a great place for George. Playing alongside Steph Curry and Draymond Greene could put the Warriors back in title connection.

Prediction: Golden State Warriors Klay Thompson

Klay Thompson’s play has dipped in production but he’s still an effective starter in the NBA. He brings leadership, championship experience, and elite shooting. Klay’s injured past hasn’t been kind to him in recent years, plus Golden State’s Roster isn’t as complimentary to Klay as it’s been in years past. Klay needs a team that he can get back to being himself. I think pairing Klay’s shooting and defense with former NBA MVP Joel Embiid and upcoming star Tyrese Maxey will prove well and make Philadelphia a true contender.

Prediction Philadelphia 76ers

With the new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) it’s going to be difficult for many teams to maneuver around the rules and regulations. This doesn’t mean that the teams can’t make these moves happen but time will tell if they get done.
