Black Music Month In June Dedicated to Celebration Contributing of African-American Music

WUFO 1080 AM/POWER 96.5 FM Buffalo’s only Black-owned radio station has a long history of promoting musical talents, mu sic, and informational talk shows to uplift and inform the Buffalo and national communities. Since 1960 so many have grown up with the soulful sounds of WUFO 1080. The DJs were nationally known, and the music influenced generations.

Sheila Brown, the owner of WUFO 1080/power 96.5 and founder of the WUFO Black Radio Collective (Museum) is proud of the musical history and the cur rent radio and local musical talent. Twenty years ago, WUFO introduced the annual Black Music Conference and Awards (BMMCA) to highlight Buffalo’s musical talent and to honor the musical history of WUFO 1080.

The Black Music Conference highlights include:

  • The Annual MUSICAL AWARDS Show (Saturday, June 22) and The WUFO Talent Show (Sunday, June 2023)

  • Auditions for the annual Talent Competition will be held during the month of May 2024. Local and regional performers are invited to audition to be in the final TALENT AWARDS show lineup on Sunday, June 23, 2024.

  • Local HIP-HOP, JAZZ, NEO-SOUL, R&B, AND GOSPEL PERFORMING ARTISTS DISPLAY THEIR TALENTS FOR PRIZES!

Sheila adds, “The two award events are Red Car pet Affairs! The community is invited on Saturday, June 22, and Sunday, June 23rd to walk the red carpet and enjoy the music and Award events.
