Drunk Driver Pleads Guilty
Fifty-one year-old Mark S. Printup of Town of Cambria pleaded guilty this afternoon before Erie County Court Judge James Bargnesi to one count of Vehicular Assault in the First Degree (Class “D” felony). The defendant pleaded guilty to the highest count in the indictment.
On August 13, 2022, at approximately 10:42 p.m., the defendant was under the influence of alcohol when he drove his vehicle through a stop sign at Utley Road and Hunts Corners Road in the Town of Newstead, causing a collision with another vehicle that had the right-of-way at the intersection.
The driver of the other vehicle was extracted out of his vehicle by a local fire company. The victim, a 22- year-old man from North Tonawanda, was transported by Mercy Flight to ECMC where he was hospitalized for several weeks with serious physical injuries. The victim underwent several surgeries for various serious physical injuries, including a traumatic brain injury and fractured pelvis. He continues to receive long term care treatment.
Printup faces a maximum of 7 years in prison when he is sentenced on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at 9:30 a.m. He remains released on his own recognizance.
