Chess Players Celebrated 2024 Juneteenth Competitions
2024 Juneteenth Dr. Open Lee Open - Undefeated Champion - Rick L. Jones with USCF Tournament Director, Michael A. Mc Duffie.
Undefeated Champion, Rick Jones and seven other eastside community chess players celebrated the 2024 Juneteenth National holiday by competing in the 2024 Juneteenth Dr. Opal Lee Open Chess tournament.
Elijah Austin, 2nd Place winner, Miles James, Roberto Arvelo, Bobby Woods, Arvell Dove, Rico Brisbon and James McAlory played four (OTB)over-the-board matches at the Frank E. Merriweather Library on Saturday, June 22, 2024. As a result, Rick Jones and Elijah were both invited to join the U.S. Chess Federation and compete in the rated, 24 players portion of a six-game, dual rated tournament play.
