The Buffalo History Museum Features Adam Zyglis Exhibit
The Buffalo History Museum is collaborating with The Buffalo News Editorial Cartoonist Adam Zyglis on a new exhibit, Ink & Insight: 20 Years of Adam Zyglis Cartoons. The exhibit opens Friday, Oct. 18, and is scheduled to run through July 2025.
For the past two decades, the Pulitzer Prize-winner has created more than 4,000 pieces of visual commentary for The Buffalo News, keeping his pen on the pulse of local, national, and international news. Zyglis has carried on this important tradition of free expression, after his Pulitzer-winning predecessors Tom Toles and Bruce Shanks, with a focus on comforting the afflicted and afflicting the comfortable. Day in and day out, Zyglis has employed wit, biting satire, and caricature to direct our attention to hard truths and injustice, with the ultimate goal of pushing society forward.
“Through the pen and ingenuity of Adam Zyglis, our visitors will be able to experience our current and recent political history as only an editorial cartoonist can present it,” said Buffalo History Museum Executive Director Melissa Brown. “The collaboration among Adam, The Buffalo News, and the Museum showcases a unique artform that will be both thought provoking and insightful to museum-goers.”
"It's an honor to be able to visually showcase the body of work that I've created over the past two decades,” Zyglis said. ”The Buffalo History Museum is such an iconic space and a Buffalo institution, making this exhibition a highlight of my career. I'm hoping the exhibit will tell the story of our collective experience, both locally and nationally, through the lens of my art."
The 20-year retrospective collection of dozens of his cartoons, spanning four presidents and five governors.
“As editorial cartoonist for The Buffalo News, Adam Zyglis uses his art to provide important commentary on current affairs,” said The Buffalo News Executive Editor Shelia Rayam. “His political and social commentary has been captivating and enlightening through the years. The opinion section of a newspaper is a marketplace of thought, a place where the community can read or share ideas. Adam’s work has been and remains an important part of public discourse in our region.”
The public is invited to “An Evening with Adam Zyglis” on Friday, Oct. 18, as he discusses his career. The program begins at 6 p.m., in the Museum auditorium followed by a reception in the exhibit space located on the lower level of the Museum. The Buffalo News Editorial Writer and Columnist Elizabeth Licata will moderate the discussion. Afterward, guests will have opportunity to explore the new exhibit. Tickets are $25 for non-members, $15 for members.
