Queens In Training Introduced to Royal Game of Chess

The Queens In Training girls visited the Merriweather Branch Library on Saturday, March 16, 2024. During their first tour visit, the six girls with group leader, Nydia Rolling were introduced to the royal game of chess by Michael A. Mc Duffie, Founder of the Archangel 8 Chess Academy, United States Chess Federation Chess Coach and Tournament Director.

They learned the names and values of the pieces, names of the squares, how to arrange the pieces on the algebraic chess board. The young queens finished their tour by reading books. According to the U.S. Chess Federation study, students who play chess and read books outperform their peers twice as much. Also, only 12 percent of females play the game of chess.
