Mayor Brown and PAL of Buffalo Announce New Spring Partnership With Braymiller Market

Mayor Byron W. Brown

Mayor Byron W. Brown, Executive Director of The Police Athletic League of Buffalo (PAL) Nekia Kemp, owner of Braymiller Market Stuart Green and Community Policing Coordinator for BPD Lieutenant Jenny Velez announced the start of a new spring partnership that will help send hundreds of City of Buffalo youth to summer camp for free.

The Camp Champs Round Up Campaign is a three month fundraising initiative by Buffalo PAL and Braymiller Market. It allows in-store shoppers to round up their total shopping bill to donate to Camp Champs, Buffalo PAL’s free, six-week, full-day summer camp program. The summer camp is available to City of Buffalo youth in grades K-12. The Camp Champs Round Up Campaign aims to raise $40,000. It runs from April 2 to June 30.

Mayor Byron W. Brown said, “When we invest in our young people, we invest in the future of our community, and that’s what the new Camp Champs Round Up Campaign can achieve. Today I ask residents and business owners to show their continued generosity and support this new fundraising initiative by the Police Athletic League of Buffalo and Braymiller Market in downtown Buffalo. Summer is a critical time to provide our young people with safe, fun and engaging opportunities to learn and grow and the Camp Champs Round Up Campaign will help raise the funds needed to send hundreds of City youth to PAL’s summer camp for free.”

The Camp Champs summer program aims to enhance student academic growth over the summer break. Youth enrolled in Camp Champs enjoy educational field trips, sports, arts, fitness and nutrition, and literacy and STEM programming. In addition, participating youth can also partake in programs that teach them how to play tennis and golf and lessons on finance and workforce development.

Executive Director of The Police Athletic League of Buffalo Nekia Kemp said, “The Police Athletic League of Buffalo services thousands of youth in Buffalo all year long through a variety of programming. Camp Champs is our largest summer program which engages youth through enrichment and recreational programming, so they can continue learning throughout the summer months. I want to thank Stuart Green and Braymiller Market along with Charter Spectrum Communications for their partnership during Buffalo PAL’s spring fundraising initiative. The Camp Champs Round Up Campaign will allow many City of Buffalo youth to attend summer camp for free, keeping them active all day long. I also want to thank Mayor Brown and The City of Buffalo, and The Buffalo Police Department for their continued support.”
