In Honor of Dr. Carolyn Benton
An Ode to A Creative Soul
By Allie Freeman
Hidden talent out of sight,
Coming forth when the time was right
A mega force, as her son said – always right of course
Multitalented in many ways, quilting, writing books, the recipient of the PhD
Making birthday, money corsages for my sorors, swearing me to secrecy, said she was aging; can’t do it again my friend.
When writing her PhD, rebelling against the preferable style cause she wanted to express Ebonics demanding “can’t you see.” Honor to the ancestors preferably.
Terrible, not to me, a warrior woman though keeping it real
When training young girls for transcending the world
Finally, she wrote a book, taking a look at an elder titled, Winding Path of a Shero’s Journey. According to the past Honorable James Pitts, Dr. Benton made a believer out of his daughter. Finally, she presented me with a book of my family on the day of my 90th plus three months birthday celebration
My beloved delivered her son Louis, what a beautiful moment in time when she brought it by the house
The grandchildren and my family of daughters in love My sons, we were all looking at it with awwwe coming from our mouths.
Rest in Paradise, Dr. Benton. You completed your task and gave it your best.
