INDEPENDENT AUDIT CONFIRMS TRANSPARENCY IN BUFFALO SEWER AUTHORITY FINANCES

On January 8, 2025, the Buffalo Sewer Authority (BSA) Board of Directors unanimously approved the annual financial report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2024. The report, audited by Drescher & Malecki LLP, found no deficiencies or irregularities, praising the Authority’s financial work as "clear" and "transparent."

Charles Riley, Executive Secretary and CFO of BSA, stated, "We are proud of the strong internal controls and checks and balances we’ve implemented. These efforts ensure we are good financial stewards while maintaining public health and safety. Our team is planning for future needs, including the $1 billion Queen City Clean Waters (QCCW) initiative."

Highlights of the 2023-2024 Financial Report $38 Million Investment: Enhancements in Green Infrastructure, Smart Sewers, and facility upgrades to improve stormwater systems. Federal Compliance: Proper use of $850,000 in American Rescue Plan funds provided by the City of Buffalo. Workforce Development: A $575,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Labor supported local workforce training for underserved communities. Capital Projects for 2024-2025 The Authority adopted a five-year capital plan outlining $268 million in projects, including:

Bird Island Treatment Facility: $176 million for critical upgrades. Green & Smart Infrastructure: $92.3 million allocated for innovative sewer systems under the QCCW initiative. National Recognition For the 37th consecutive year, BSA received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). The Authority plans to submit its 2024 report for this prestigious award.
