Honoring Grand Dutchess Susan Hutchins

Grand Dutchess Susan Sebastiana (Garvin) Hutchins

Grand Dutchess Susan Sebastiana (Garvin) Hutchins received her heavenly reward last week, surrounded by her loving family and friends.

Born on Valentine’s Day, 1941, in Buffalo, NY, to Artis Sr. and Wilhelmina Garvin, Susan’s life was a testament to the power of dedication, compassion, and enduring strength.

Susan shared a remarkable 63-year marriage with her beloved husband, Henderson “Hutch” Hutchins. Together, they built a loving family, raising four children: Philip Charles (Roshawn), Lisa Laggan (Clarence), Regina Hutchins-Winstead (Robert), and Aleena Winstead. She was also cherished by a host of grandchildren, cousins, extended family, and friends.

A proud graduate of East High School and Medaille College, Susan pursued various professional endeavors throughout her life. Her dedication extended beyond her career into a lifelong commitment to faith and service.

As a devoted and dedicated member of St. Martin DePorres Roman Catholic Church, she founded the Women’s Usher Board and was an active member of the SMDP Women’s Guild. Her life was a symphony of service, love, and unwavering devotion to her family and community.

Susan’s presence was a gift to all who knew her, and her legacy of faith, kindness, and leadership will continue to inspire generations to come.

Rest well, Mrs. Susan.
