Goodwill of the Finger Lakes Welcomes Janice M. Holland to Leadership Team as Chief People Officer

Rochester, N.Y. — Goodwill of the Finger Lakes has welcomed Janice M. Holland to its leadership team as chief people officer. Holland will provide strategic human capital vision, leadership and change management that aligns with the organization’s strategic business and people operations. She will oversee all areas of the human resources department and elevate the strategic direction of people operations to create a climate and culture of belonging, equity, inclusion and access focused on talent acquisition and retention, learning and development, organizational and performance management, compliance, benefits and compensation.

“It is important to use my talent, skills and abilities in an organization where I can thrive and bring my whole self to the table,” Holland shared upon her welcome at Goodwill of the Finger Lakes. “I welcome the diversity of thought, collaboration, and the opportunity to learn, unlearn, change, grow and repeat.”

Prior to joining Goodwill of the Finger Lake’s leadership team, Holland spent more than 20 years at the University of Rochester, where she facilitated change management strategies for the inaugural Office of Equity and Inclusion in 2020, and developed and implemented university staff equity officers in 2019 to support equity, diversity and inclusion university-wide as internal consultants to all faculty, staff and administration. She redesigned the university’s Workforce Affirmative Action Program in 2021, and developed job readiness and career change training in collaboration with the city of Rochester to address displaced workers and second-career opportunities.

Holland has been the recipient of several high-profile leadership and community awards, including The Lena M. Gantt Distinguished Community Service Award (2018), Black Physicians Network of Greater Rochester Francis J. Clement Making a Difference Award (2017), Special Mayoral Recognition Certificate from the city of Rochester’s Office of the Mayor (2017), True Networking Thursday (TNT) Marshall Spurlock Community Service Award (2017), University of Rochester’s Presidential Diversity Award (2016) and University of Rochester’s Human Resources Outstanding Achievement Award (2011).

She serves as a volunteer committee member on the RocACTS education task force. Holland has also spent time on other boards and committees over the past decade, including with Community Engagement for Racial Justice at University of Rochester as board member, BOCES II of Spencerport, Jefferson Avenue Childcare Center, Church of Love Faith Center, Gold School Unified Tae Kwon Do and Southwest YMCA. She resides in Chili with her husband Ken.
