Congressman Tim Kennedy (NY-26) announced $161,910 in federal funding for the Western New York Council on Occupational Safety & Health, Inc. (WNYCOSH) to support workplace safety training.

“Communication is a critical component of providing a safe work environment,” Congressman Kennedy said. “Ensuring employees return home safely to their families each day is a collective responsibility. I applaud WNYCOSH for their continued advocacy on behalf of the hardworking people of Western New York.”

“WNYCOSH appreciates Congressman Kennedy’s long support for WNYCOSH’s training initiatives and his leadership in supporting safer workplaces. Under this grant, WNYCOSH will provide training in fire safety, bloodborne pathogens, slips, trips, and falls, and lock out tag out,” Brian Brown-Cashdollar, Executive Director, WNYCOSH said.

WNYCOSH will use the grant to support fire safety and fall-prevention training for employers and workers in the construction, healthcare, hospitality, restaurant, retail, and service industries. The project will target harder-to-reach workers, including those with English as a second language by offering training in English, Arabic, Burmese, Karen, and Spanish.

The grant is provided through the U.S. Department of Labor’s Susan Harwood Training Grant Program, which supports programs intended to inform and prevent occupational health and safety hazards. WNYCOSH is among 102 non-profit organizations nationwide receiving a combined $12.7 million through the program.

Rep. Kennedy is a member of the Congressional Labor Caucus working to advance worker priorities and protect workers rights.
