Communities of Giving Legacy Initiative Announces Recipients of Its 2024 Community Service Awards Honoring Judge Hugh B. Scott
The Communities of Giving Legacy Initiative (CGLI), an initiative of the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo that focuses on cultivating positive change in the lives of trailblazing youth of color, is pleased to announce the 2024 recipients of the Judge Hugh B. Scott Community Service Award and the Inspiring Youth Community Service Award, both of which honor the legacy of Judge Hugh B. Scott.
The Judge Hugh B. Scott Community Service Award recognizes a person of color age 21-40 from Western New York who exemplifies a commitment to creating positive change in the lives of youth of color through community service, civic engagement or volunteerism. The 2024 recipient is Tiffany Torres, Manager of Diversity and Belonging, Evergreen Health.
The Judge Hugh B. Scott Inspiring Youth Community Service Award recognizes a trailblazing youth of color age 13- 20 from Western New York who exemplifies a commitment to creating positive change through community service, civic engagement or volunteerism, above and beyond activities required or sponsored by school or youth programs. The 2024 recipient is Jonathan Evans, a student at St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute.
Both recipients will be honored at the CGLI’s annual Pay It Forward Awards on Nov. 7, 2024.
Hugh B. Scott was a United States magistrate judge for the Western District of New York, known for his integrity that was demonstrated by his work in judicial codes of conduct and his pioneering work in the area of reentry. He also taught trial technique at University at Buffalo Law School for more than 30 years. Judge Scott was a founding member of the CGLI who exemplified its mission of creating positive change in the lives of trailblazing youth of color living in Western New York.
To honor his legacy, the CGLI established these two awards to lift up and celebrate individuals who represent new generations of servant-leaders in our Western New York communities of color.
