MAYOR SCANLON ENCOURAGES CITY YOUTH TO SIGN UP FOR THE 2025 YOUTH MENTORING PROGRAM
Mayor Christopher P. Scanlon today encouraged City youth, ages 7 to 17, to sign up for the 2025 Youth Mentoring Program in the City of Buffalo, which gets underway in January. The six-week session is part of Mayor Scanlon’s strong commitment to provide youth with impactful supports outside of the classroom.
“Buffalo’s future is directly related to how we invest in our young people,” said Mayor Christopher P. Scanlon. “This six-week mentoring program is designed to help our youth make meaningful connections and develop leadership skills that will help them grow and reach their full potential. We all need positive role models in our lives, and I’m grateful to the individuals who are taking the time to share their journey and offer insights as we work together to nurture our youth and put them on an academic or career path to success.”
The program begins on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, and continues every Tuesday, through February 11th. It will take place at the Peter Machnica Community Center, located at 1799 Clinton Street in Buffalo, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. At each session, participants will be greeted by a dedicated group of mentors who will help guide, motivate and inspire them in a safe and equitable environment. During the program, staff from the Department of Community Services and the Division of Recreation will help facilitate practical lessons for participants, customize fitness activities, and form valuable connections with them to help them thrive and succeed in life.
In addition to mentoring, the program offers at least 30-minutes of drills and skills with intentional coaching, free snacks and beverages, free books, crafts, career exploration and counseling services. The program is presented by Mayor Christopher P. Scanlon and the City of Buffalo, Buffalo Police Department, the Police Athletic League of Buffalo and KeyBank.
