Champ Eve Laid to Rest
By Frank Gist
Hundreds turned out last week to Elim Christian Leadership Church for a final farewell to one of the most respected community leaders of this generation. Arthur O. (Champ) Eve, Jr. transitioned after a long battle with chronic disease at the age of 68.
Champ was the eldest son of former New York State Assembly Deputy Speaker Arthur O. Eve, the most influential Black politician in Buffalo history, and the late Constance (Connie) Eve.
Champ was a man’s man who dedicated his life to community and family.
His funeral was truly a celebration of a life well lived and a sad, solemn expression of genuine love by many of his friends, family, and colleagues who told the story of a remarkable human being who touched the lives of thousands in his many endeavors.
Champ had a blended family of 9 children and 8 grandchildren. He was a leader of men who was a championship coach, teacher, political force and true gentleman.
Champ is survived by his wife: Kim Marie Eve; Father, Arthur O. Eve, Sr.; and four siblings: Leecha Roberta, Eric Vincent, Malcolm Xavier and Martin King Eve, and a host of other family and friends.
He will be missed by many, many people. God’s Speed, Champ.
