Business of the Week: “Living Proof”

Living Proof, a clothing store founded by Alex Luko and Jack Reed is more than just a place to shop for fashion. It is a store deeply rooted in the community and driven by a mission to change the dynamics of fashion within that community.

Located at 110 Genesee Street in Buffalo, New York, Living Proof stands out with its unique approach to fashion and community engagement. As I approached the store, I was greeted by an open garage door giving the impression that I was not entering a traditional building, rather stepping into a space that is an integral part of the community.

Upon entering, I was welcomed by a cozy seating area with couches and a table where people engage in conversations and share warm smiles. The store showcases a diverse range of clothing styles, shoes, eyeglasses, and other fashion accessories providing everything one needs to express their personal style.

Living Proof goes beyond being just a clothing store. Alex Luko, one of the founders explained that the store serves multiple purposes within the community. In addition to offering high-end fashion, Living Proof provides space for various community activities. It serves as a venue for art galleries, video shoots for social media content, including opportunities for promotional interviews and events.

My conversation with Alex emphasized Living Proof’s platform for supporting and promoting black businesses. The store hosts weekend pop-up shops allowing local black entrepreneurs to showcase and sell their products. Additionally, Living Proof offers a special area in the back of the store that can be utilized by individuals looking to grow their own businesses.

Through my experience at Living Proof, I gained a glimpse into the future of community-owned small black businesses. It is a testament to what can be achieved when individuals come together to support and uplift one another. Living Proof not only provides a vibrant cultural experience through its fashion offerings, but also serves as a catalyst for economic growth and empowerment within the community.

Overall, Living Proof is a clothing store that goes beyond fashion. It embodies the idea of putting your mind to whatever you want to accomplish, constantly learning, and never giving up. By fostering a sense of community, supporting local black businesses, and providing a space for creativity and growth, Living Proof showcases the potential of community-owned businesses to positively impact both individuals and the broader community.
