Ice at Canalside Celebrates Black History Month

To recognize and celebrate Black History Month, Rich Entertainment Group will host pop-up shops for Black-owned businesses at the Ice at Canalside and run a clothing drive and promotions to benefit community organizations in East Buffalo.

  • Each weekend, a black-owned business will set up shop in an igloo beside the ice rink

  • On Sundays in February, $1 from each admission will be donated to the following local organizations dedicated to the advancement of Buffalo’s Black community:

    • Feb. 4: Colored Musicians Club

    • Feb. 11: Colored Girls Bike Club

    • Feb. 18: Black Boys Read Too

    • Feb. 25: African American Cultural Center

  • On Sundays in February, any patron who donates a piece of winter clothing will receive a free skate rental. Clothing donations will benefit Ladies Let’s Be Real, a women’s ministry developed to help and strengthen women of all ages to increase their self esteem

  • Music at the ice throughout the month will feature a playlist exclusively dedicated to Black artists

“At the Ice at Canalside, we like to take this time each year to celebrate the contributions of our city’s Black-owned businesses and dedicated community organizations,” said Lauren Ford, general manager, Buffalo Waterfront. “We’re looking forward to a great final month at the ice to cap off the 2023-2024 season.”

The Ice at Canalside remains open through Feb. 25. During the final month, Buffalo Waterfront offers discounted curling reservations and igloo rentals. Learn more at:
