Rich Family Foundation & Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Donate 46,000 Tickets for the Ice at Canalside to Bflo. Public Schools

The Rich Family Foundation and Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield today announced a donation of over 46,000 skate admission and rental tickets to the Ice at Canalside for Buffalo Public School students, faculty and staff.

“The Ice at Canalside is an iconic destination for Western New Yorkers and visitors alike. This donation from the Rich Family Foundation will ensure that thousands of students, faculty and staff have access to one of the area’s greatest winter resources,” said Joe Segarra, president, Rich Entertainment Group.

Students from Bennett Park Montessori (PS 32), Buffalo Elementary School of Technology (PS 6) and The New Buffalo School of Culinary and Hospitality Management (PS 355) took a brief break from their school days to spend some time on the ice, as Buffalo Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Tonja M. Williams expressed her gratitude for the donation.

“Enjoying a day of winter fun skating at Canalside gives Buffalo Public Schools students and others a fantastic way to not only enjoy time with friends and family but to make lasting memories,” said Dr. Williams. “On behalf of the entire Buffalo Public Schools community and the Buffalo Board of Education, during the season of giving, I want to personally thank the Rich Family Foundation and Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield for their generous donation of over 46,000 skate admission and rental tickets to the ice rink at Canalside. The generosity of the Rich Foundation and Highmark will put a lot of smiles on the faces of our students.”

The admission and rental passes represent a $500,000 value. The passes will be distributed throughout the district and passholders can redeem them anytime throughout the 2023-2024 season at the rink.

The rink is easily accessible from the NFTA Metro Rail’s Erie Canal Harbor Station stop, with Canalside area parking ramps and surface lots available as well.

The Ice at Canalside will be open through February 25.
