His family left the South, leaving behind a sharecropping lifestyle as they began a new way of life in Wilberforce Ohio in the 1950’s. After gaining a BA. from Central State University, Jesse made his way to Buffalo, New York, attending Buffalo State College where he earned a Master's Degree in Education. After twenty five years as an educator, Jesse retired from the Buffalo Public School system.

Jesse Key”s experience as a musician, singer and song-writer qualifies him as a Soul Man of the 1960’s and 70’s; producing a number of R&B/Blues & Soul records among them: Love Is the Way, Help Build Buffalo, and What it Takes to Live. Jesse’s music career with an Ohio quartet brought him close to penning a deal with Motown Records and eventually ushered him to management at WUFO Radio.
