Artspace Art Gallery Reboots NACC “Women of Colors” Exhibition – May 2 – 31, 2025
Artspace Art Gallery at 1219 Main Street is re-mounting the Niagara Arts and Cultural Center 16th Annual Artists of Color exhibit in Buffalo from May 2 – 31, 2025
The opening reception for “Women of Colors” at Artspace Art Gallery is Friday, May 2, 2025 from 6 to 9 pm at 1219 Main Street in Buffalo. Admission is free.
Themed “Women of Colors” for 2025, and curated by Robertson, NACC Gallery Co-Director, the repeat exhibition at Artspace includes oil, watercolor, acrylic and mixed media works by most of the 20 artists featured in Niagara Falls from February 8 to March 22. Robertson joined the NACC staff in 2008 and mounted his first Artists of Color exhibit there in 2009.
“This exhibit gave me a new appreciation for the strength and vision of some of the women. It was eye opening,” says Robertson, a multimedia artist whose disciplines include photography, painting and elegant driftwood sculpture. “I got to hear heartfelt stories and have conversations from the heart. There is a real commonality to their experience.”
Co-Curators Ari Moore and Doretha Edwards
Both exhibits are co-curated by Ari Moore and Doretha Edwards. Moore, a former Buffalo police office, is a popular favorite on the Buffalo art scene, known for her vibrant canvases and decades of dedication as an art educator, archivist, and political and iconic LGBTQ+ activist. Doretha Edwards holds a BFA from the Memphis Academy of Arts and has exhibited at University at Buffalo, Niagara University, the Carnegie Center and El Museo, among other locations. Both women are Buffalo natives.
Artspace-NACC connection
The idea to bring “Women of Colors” to Artspace Art Gallery is the brainstorm of its longtime resident Janice Davis, whose work appeared in the NACC exhibit, and has been shown at Buffalo State, Kaleida and Trico Gallery in Buffalo, as well as at Artspace. Davis is co-coordinating the Artspace repeat with Robertson and fellow Artspace resident Ilona Middleton. Artspace Buffalo is a mixed used residential facility with about 60 residential units.
