NAN to Hold Annual ‘Homicide to Healing’ Event

The National Action Network (NAN) Buffalo/Niagara Chapter under the leadership of Chapter President Dr. James A. Lewis III, is hosting their annual “Homicide to Healing” Event on April 13, 2024, from 2:00pm – 5:00pm at Good Shepherd Temple located at 425 Goodyear Avenue, Buffalo. Host Pastor Elzie Fisher.

Homicide to Healing was created to recognize and support the families of Buffalo homicide victims to promote constructive dialogue and ongoing encouragement for healing, and for those lives permanently altered by the loss of a loved one due to violence. This event is free and open to the public. We especially welcome family members and friends of homicide victims to attend as our featured guests. We will acknowledge the lives and legacies of the victims while providing support, motivation, and encouragement for healing.

News 4 produced a story in January of 2024 entitled “Buffalo Police report decreases in crime for 2023” The Buffalo Police Department reported a 45% reduction in homicides from 2022, along with shooting homicides going down 57%. The article also stated there were 39 homicides in 2023, compared to 71 in 2022.

This event has been made possible with the generous support of local and national sponsors. We are grateful to our community partners, including Back to Basics, Erie County Medical Center, A Team of H.O.P.E. (Helping out People Everywhere, Buffalo Police Department, and Chaplains led by Deputy Police Commissioner Dawn Kent. Yoselin Person, a reporter at WKBW News, will serve as this year’s facilitator. Additionally, Marsha McWilson, a Niagara Falls Hall of Famer, will perform a musical celebration to encourage and uplift families and the community.

The National Action Network (NAN) has a platform that places the responsibility of providing visibility and a voice for organizations and communities on our agency. We achieve this by continuing to host collaborative events that promote the fundamentals of community engagement and the universal mission that serves all of humanity.
