Erie County (NY) Chapter of The Links Inc. Hosted Family Wellness Expo

The Erie County (NY) Chapter of the Links Incorporated, held a Family Wellness Expo on Saturday March 16th, 10-1 p.m., at the Say Yes Saturday Academy at School #99 Makowski, 1095 Jefferson Avenue. This effort in Erie County (NY) Buffalo was aimed at collaboratively addressing a variety of health disparities that negatively impact the health and quality of life for many in our community.

The local event is a part of The Links, Incorporated ‘s nationwide Family Wellness Effort being held across the country to increase positive health outcomes and raise awareness of conditions that tend to shorten or impact the quality of life for those who may be disenfranchised. Some of the issues the Health Program addressed in collaboration with young health professionals of color in their white lab coats included: Oral Health Care with Live Simulated Demonstrations, Women’s Health, Nutrition, Heart Health, Mental Health Awareness, Maternal Health Resources, Voter Registration and Voting Information and more.

Support was provided by Erie County (NY) Chapter Link (ECCL) sisters in collaboration with community organizations such as University Pediatric Dentistry and Say Yes Saturday Academy at School #99 Makowski.

The Erie County (NY) Chapter Links provided a community outreach event for families that attended the Saturday event. It was intentionally interactive, engaging participants with hands-on activities. Registration included a written pledge for healthy smiles and healthy lives. This was followed by the opportunity to rotate through stations each with a different health message. Bags were handed out filled with healthy food items, Colgate Bright Smiles donated oral health supplies, lists of health resources and health literacy
