True Vine New Life Church dedicated a few hours to Christian education that was taught by Pastor Thomas L. Artis. Pastor Artis also brought the message that was insightful to all present. The scripture for meditation this week comes from Jeremiah 17:1-10.
A Christian Perspective: A Personal Choice (James 1:14-21). It seems that in every generation there is an invention by man that captivates the mind of society. Today it is computerized technology: everything from P.C.s, laptops, notebooks, tablets, smartphones, games, and A.I. (artificial intelligence). In my day, the big invention was the television. Yes, black and white TV.
I can remember who on the block got the first color TV. I can remember when cable TV and HBO came out. In those days, not everyone could afford a television set; not to mention cable TV or HBO. Those that were blessed to have them had to endure a lecture from their parents explaining that the things they saw on TV were “pretend”.
However, that did not stop many young boys from tying a cape around their neck and jumping out the window thinking they could fly like Superman. Families would sit down together and watch the Sunday Afternoon Movies, The Wonderful World of Disney, etc.
Now there were still some Church folk who didn’t own a television, and declared them evil, with evil messages, and that one day we will regret having them in our homes. That day has come! There used to be a time when people would complain about the program content, everyone would say, “change the channel; no one is forcing you to watch it.” Today you are forced to watch it.
Evil is glorified and promoted on every channel except the Christian Networks and Streaming Channels. They glorify the Lord while the others glorify a whole array of the debauchery and lascivious living such as: violence, murder, rape, drunkenness fornication, adultery, homosexuality (1 Corinthians 6:9-11). You can’t even turn on the television without seeing a display of sin masquerading as a normal way of life.
The commercials today not only advertise a product, but they also advertise sin. Because our society’s mission is to remove God from every aspect of public life, that void is being filled with sin (Matthew 12:43-45). Today a society that once had trusting neighbors now live in violent neighborhoods. Children at neighborhood schools are searched for guns and drugs. Meanwhile our government gives out the smartphones that promote these evils and deny the postings of The 10 Commandments.
Are there regulations that the government can enact? Yes, but that does not change the heart of man. The answer is Jesus Christ! Because blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord and the people whom he has chosen for his own inheritance (Psalm 33:12).
