The Eye On History Book Signing Event Is Scheduled for December 9, 2023

I would like to invite my readers to join me on Saturday, December 9, 2023, to the book signing of my new book. It will be held at the Merriweather Library from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. The library is located at 1324 Jefferson Avenue. This is my 13th book. The book signing will include music, poetry, and a special video.

The title of the book is “My Journey of 45 Years Teaching African and African American History in the Home, School, and Community.” This book traces my life as an Educator, Historian, and Activist. The places, events, and people featured have contributed to my journey. The book includes such chapters as: “Ten Things You Need to Know about Black History.”

There is a description of how and where I did my research on the little- known facts of Black history. There are pictures of community events that I held in many areas of our city. The book begins with a poem by renown poet, Brother Taharka Odinga called “The Queen at the Library.” Brother Taharka recited this poem several times in the past and once at the site of the Freedom Wall on East Ferry and Michigan Avenue. I greatly appreciate his words that included my late husband, Romeo Doyle Muhammad. This is a poem that I will always treasure.

The cover of the book includes the Sankofa symbol. This is one of the Adinkra symbols from the Akan people of West Africa. It means to go back and fetch our history, our culture, and traditions and never forget our past. The Sankofa bird is used to represent this spirit of reaching back. In the symbol, the bird is looking back in the direction of its tail. Looking backwards is a quest to look to the past for knowledge of self.

Sankofa is the symbol of learning from the past to build for the future. This is an important part of my book. You can purchase the book at Zawadi Books located at 1382 Jefferson. Zawadi Books is owned by Sharon and Kenneth Holley. It will also be online at Amazon. For more information you can call (716) 847-6010.

I have dedicated this book to my former students, educators, parents and to all people who love history. It is my hope that this book will serve as a guide and inspiration to share this history in as many ways as possible. To God be the Glory for this exciting opportunity to once again publish a book with history in mind!!
