The D.E.I. Deception

Trump’s crusade against D.E.I. (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) in government is ridiculous to me. Since taking office, he has blamed D.E.I. for everything—from the L.A. fires to the recent air crash in D.C.!!

This is nothing new. It’s the same old white supremacist propaganda that claims all so-called minorities are stupid, incompetent, and undeserving of anything a white man might want or need. D.E.I. is simply the modern version of what was once called “affirmative action”—back when every loser white man in America believed they were deprived of jobs, education, and career advancement because some “unqualified Negro” had stolen their dreams.

As a retired Buffalo firefighter who was originally hired under a court order, I know all about affirmative action and what it means to be deemed unqualified, undeserving, and unworthy of a profession. Yet, I took and passed all the same exams and training as my white colleagues—many of whom were hired under the age-old "friends and family" affirmative action system. I once heard a white coworker say, with a straight face, that his job was a birthright handed down from his father and grandfather. Yet, he was one of the dumbest white men I had ever met.

The dirty little secret? D.E.I.’s greatest beneficiaries have actually been white women and gay individuals.

When I was growing up, female police officers, firefighters, doctors, and lawyers were as rare as chicken’s teeth. Today, women in uniformed services and professional fields are common. That’s because of affirmative action. Were all those women incompetent and unworthy?

An honest assessment of affirmative action reveals that it opened doors in many professions to a broader spectrum of society. For example, before I was hired by the Buffalo Fire Department (BFD), there were strict physical and strength requirements—including height, age, and weight restrictions—which excluded a large segment of white and Hispanic men and women.

But there’s another unspoken aspect of this MAGA-driven D.E.I. purge— one that has nothing to do with race.

It’s also about rejecting the LGBTQ+ “woke” agenda.

To be honest, when I first heard the acronym D.E.I., I immediately suspected it was a Trojan horse designed to integrate LGBTQ+ civil rights initiatives into government and business—promoting and normalizing their lifestyle. And guess what? It’s working.

Maybe it’s just my imagination, but lately, I’ve seen more transgender people than I have in my entire life.

Just the other day, I was shopping at a big-box store and asked an associate for help. The woman was polite and helpful, but as I looked into her face, I suddenly realized—she was a he. It startled me. Maybe I’m old and “unwoke,” but there was something unsettling about it.

Apparently, Trump is listening to his MAGA base, who have had enough of what they see as the “woke” agenda permeating our society. He recently signed a proclamation banning pronouns from federal employee email signatures and declaring that there are officially only two genders in America. Who would have ever thought a President would need to affirm that basic fact of life?
