A Scarlett Letter for Nikki
There is nothing like a good old fashion Washington D.C. sex scandal, especially when it involves a Presidential candidate. Some may remember a promising young 1988 Democratic presidential candidate, Senator Gary Hart, a married family man who was busted by the paparazzi with his “sidepiece” all booed up on a yacht. His campaign and political career sank like the Titanic within days.
However, sex scandals are not always a bad thing. For some, it enhances the mystique of the candidate. Baby Boomers might remember 1990 when America first heard the name of a virtually unknown Governor Bill Clinton of Arkansas. As soon as he arrived on the national scene as a Democratic presidential candidate there were many tabloid stories of his womanizing and adulterous tryst and had been hit with several Me-Too allegations (before it was a thing). But the sex scandals of Bill Clinton only seemed to amplify his name recognition and his public affability grew, especially after his wife Hillary publicly forgave him. (He was a player for real). Ultimately, he became President of the United States.
Usually, political sex scandals come with a scarlet letter tattooed on the foreheads of the accused and is a sure-fire career destroyer, particularly in this Me-Too era where any woman merely has to be propositioned in the wrong tone of voice by a man with money or power can bring on a lawsuit by conniving woman and lawyers looking for a once in a lifetime “Bag”. As our current New York Attorney General Letitia A. James stated, “We must believe the women!”
There is a major sex scandal that was under reported in mainstream media recently that seemed to have disappeared from the political gossip pundits thus far. Did you hear that Republican Presidential Candidate Nikki Haley, a married woman with children and a husband in the military, has been accused of having affairs with two men while her husband was serving in the military?
Haley denied the allegations, but apparently there are court affidavits filed in a divorce proceeding of one of the men involved that states there was an affair. Apparently, adultery allegations aren’t new for Ambassador Haley, who was also rumored to have had an affair with Donald Trump ten years ago.
I find it odd that I have seen Haley on several talk shows recently, and I don’t believe I heard anyone question her fidelity to her marriage. If she were a man, the media would be demanding he drop his candidacy and resign from whatever office he might hold. Yet I have heard very little on the scandalous story on a woman. Is she getting a pass because the scandal exposes that women, even powerful women, can be as scandalous as men?
One thing for sure, she can forget the male vote. Every man in America will see Nikki Haley as the representation of every man’s nightmare.
