“Art of the Ride: Celebrating African Americans in the Arts with Equine Therapy Advocate Edwin Gadson”

Edwin Gadson

In celebration of Black History Month’s theme, “African Americans in the Arts,” the African American Veterans Arts and Culture Corporation, in partnership with the Johnetta R. Cole AMVETS Post No. 24, proudly brings you “Art of the Ride.” Hosted at the Frank E. Merriweather, Jr. Branch Library from February 4 to February 8, 2024. This event promises an exceptional exploration of equine therapy, spotlighting the extraordinary Edwin Gadson.

Edwin Gadson, a decorated military veteran with 16 distinguished years in the US Navy Submarine Service, has become a prominent figure in advocating for the healing power of equine therapy. Serving as a Horsemanship Ambassador for “Higher Ground Therapeutic Recreation for Veterans and First Responders,” and as a Spokesperson for “HHH” (Horses Healing Hearts Nonprofit, Warsaw NY), Gadson’s journey is one of resilience, compassion, and dedication.

The focal point of the event is a traveling exhibit that kicks off on Sunday, February 4, 2024 to Thursday, February 8, 2024 and will be open during regular business hours in the library’s foyer.

The exhibit not only showcases the artistry of equine therapy but also provides insight into its profound impact on individuals, particularly veterans and first responders.

The grand finale of the series will be a discussion and demonstration led by Edwin Gadson himself on February 8, 2024, from 4-5 pm, held in the library’s auditorium. The program will delve into the healing power of equine therapy, offering attendees a unique opportunity to gain insights into this transformative practice.

This exciting event is not only an opportunity to appreciate the intersection of art and healing but is also free and open to the public. The library welcomes everyone to join this celebration of African Americans in the Arts and explore the profound impact of equine therapy. Light refreshments will be available, creating an inviting atmosphere for an evening of inspiration and enlightenment. Mark your calendars for “Art of the Ride” – a unique journey celebrating African Americans in the Arts through the transformative lens of equine therapy.
